What kind of business is ToucanEd Inc?

ToucanEd is a small business woman-owned (SWOB) founded in 1995 by Kathleen Middleton, MS, CHES, who is the sole owner. We are publishers and custom developers of a wide range of products, including curricula, live and online courses, pamphlets, training guides, CDs, and videos. We also offer custom publishing, training, and consultation services. Many of the products we have developed for clients are for sale and can be found on our shop. We are on the federal GSA schedule, California’s CMAS schedule and as demonstrated by our Client List, we can do business in any state, territory, or other country.

The ToucanEd offices are located in sunny Santa Cruz, California, north of Monterey Bay. We are about 45 minutes from the San Jose International Airport, an hour and 15 minutes south of San Francisco, and 45 minutes north of Monterey. We always welcome you in our offices.

What hours are you open?

Our regular business hours are Monday to Thursday, 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Pacific Time. (But don’t be surprised to find us here at other times as well!)

How can I place an order?

You can place an order by mail, e-mail, online, or by phone. While you have us on the line, you can tell us how you’d like your products customized. What is ToucanEd’s customization process?

If you don’t find what you are looking for among our products and would like to discuss a potential custom project, we start by listening. Then we ask questions, such as: Who is your audience? Should we work in other languages, or does your audience have special needs? What are your objectives? What is the budget or funding source? Do you need the project to comply with continuing education, certification, or other standards of any kind? We will have ideas for you. When it is determined that ToucanEd can bring value to the project, we complete a statement of work detailing the deliverables, costs, and timeline. We like to be an extension of your team, allowing you to attend to your core business while you count on us to deliver what we have promised.

What kinds of customized services and products do you offer?

We can help you conceptualize, research, write, and design materials to meet your specific program needs. They can be printed here, using our in-house, on-demand professional printing and bindery services, or by an offset printer. And they can be electronic. We produce CDs, DVDs, videos, online and computer-based curricula, websites, and more.

Since our founder is a national expert in health education, we have considerable experience in health. However, our expertise has expanded to many content areas, including:

Can you develop customized materials for my audience?

Yes, we can. ToucanEd has developed educational materials for a wide variety of learners. They range from non-readers, both children and adults, to highly-educated and skilled professionals.

What do you charge for your services?

Product pricing is attached to each product description. For development services our billing rate is $150 per hour. We use our years of experience to estimate the number of hours needed, and quote our services based on the anticipated total project time.

What kind of training do you offer?

Our staff trains on such topics as performance assessment, how to use Using Epi Info, and several pandemic flu courses, including train the trainers. We also custom-develop trainings for your internal trainers, or for use online on your current MLS or via a new web format.
